Thank You
I believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, feel supported, and be heard. I immigrated to Canada with my family at the age of four and grew up within Ontario's public education system. I attended elementary school in Toronto before completing my high school education at Unionville High School in Markham, giving me a deep connection to the York Region community I proudly call home. As a graduate of York University with a background in music and arts education, I have dedicated myself to community involvement, youth empowerment, and educational advocacy. I currently work as a piano teacher, where I have the privilege of helping young students build confidence, discipline, creativity, and self-expression through music. Working closely with children and families over the years has strengthened my passion for supporting students both academically and personally. I currently serve as a Director of both the Chinese Education and Culture Association of Canada and the Global Youth Leadership Foundation, two non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting youth education, cultural exchange, leadership development, and stronger community connections. Through these roles, I have helped organize youth music festivals, educational initiatives, leadership programs, and cultural events that provide children and teenagers with opportunities to build confidence, express their creativity, develop leadership skills, and connect more deeply with their communities. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the importance of creating positive and inclusive opportunities that help young people thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Through my experiences in education, music, and community service, I have seen how important it is for students to feel safe, respected, motivated, and included in school. I believe strong communication between schools and families plays a critical role in student success. As a candidate for York Region District School Board Trustee, I understand that the role of a Trustee is not only to support students and families, but also to help ensure transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making within the public education system. A Trustee plays an important role in representing the voices of parents and communities, supporting student achievement and well-being, overseeing education policies and budgets, and helping schools create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments. I am committed to supporting academic excellence, student well-being, arts and cultural education, stronger family engagement, and inclusive opportunities for all students across York Region. I believe strong communication between schools, families, and communities is essential to student success, and I hope to bring a thoughtful, balanced, and community-focused perspective to the Board of Trustees.
